Cliff Railway Day achieves UK status!

The Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway Day celebrations this Saturday (12th May 2018) has now spread to other UK Cliff Railways! That damp dark November morning when the Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway team dreamed up a national day to celebrate the engineering of our nations famous Cliff Railways has now erupted into multiple family fun day celebrations up and down the UK encouraging people to support and discover the wonders of our nations Cliff Railway heritage.

Alongside the Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway, South Devon’s Babbacombe Cliff Railway and Scarborough’s Central Tramway we’re on board early and recent promises and interest have also been received from Shropshire’s Bridgenorth Cliff Railway creating what some have called a ‘Festival of Funiculars’ that has also attracting support from other heritage railways and local businesses, local council co-operation and media attention. A Twitter account @CliffRailwayDay has even been launched to help celebrate this and future Cliff Railway day events and to spread the word #CliffRailwayDay.

Rob Shaddick, Marketing Director of the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway, said ‘We’re really keen to engage families and children in visiting these wonderful heritage Cliff Railway’s across the UK, and launching Cliff Railway Day seemed a fantastic way of show casing these amazing attractions’.

Ashley Clarke, Manager and the Railway’s Chief Engineer, said ‘The support from the local businesses and the town Council has been amazing, the family packed day of fun has grown and grown over the last few weeks, it seems that both Lynton and Lynmouth have really engaged with the event, and we’re looking forward to putting on a fantastic event for our visitors this weekend.’

So whats on? Cliff Railway Family Fun Day 2018 in Lynton & Lynmouth starts with a 9am Beach Clean with the support of Keep Britain Tidy and BeachcareSW, we have the staff dressed as Victorians performing live history drama performance about the Cliff Railway, Exmoor Zoo Animal Encounters, FREE face painting, Close Up Magician, Ilfracombe’s Visiting Victorians, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park Fossil Fun, Buskers, Singers, Music, Quince Honey Farm Bee Crazy, Watermouth Castle Mascots, Exmoor Park Ranger Talks, Meet West Somerset Railways Brunel the Beagle, Cliff Railway Film, Secret Singing, Line Dancing, Ponies, Harbour Games, Summer Market, Ale Tent, BBQ, Tog of War and evening Band (The Flamin’ Ratrods) at The Ancient Mariner and MUCH MUCH MORE (This is a FREE event – normal Cliff Railway fares apply) #CliffRailwayDay For details visit the Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway Facebook Page.
